Why Home Schooling is Better Than Traditional School
The touchy topic of home schooling has been around for quite a while. In addition to the topic itself, its effectiveness has also come under heavy scrutiny for just as long. However, recently it has become quite a shining star for people that swear by it. Today, more and more people are coming out in support of this form of education.
Many people have viewed home schooling rather negatively for quite some time now. You'd be surprised to find out how many people believe that this form of education is only for social misfits, weirdos, and trouble makers.
Fortunately, people are more open minded to the concept of teaching their children from home. Many more parents every year are deciding to put their children in some form of home study program.
There are many reasons as to why parents would want to put their children's education in their own hands. So, what are some of these reasons? And what are some of the pros and cons of this form of education? Is home schooling right for my child and will my child benefit from a home study program? These are all questions that most of the parents that I come in contact with want to know.
In the past, learning from home was a privilege that children got when they were confronted by certain circumstances that left them incapable of attending a traditional school. I remember when I broke my leg, I had to finish the final 4 months of school at home. It was not any easier because my mother was constantly hounding me about my school work, and I could not stand the fact that I wasn't able to hang out with my friends at lunch and after school. However, I was able to complete all of my work and had no problems with my final exams when I was finally able to go back to school.
Ok, that's enough about me! Let's get back on point. There are litanies of advantages that can come out of a home study program, such as: it can help a child to be more like an individual, they're taught individually, and therefore, the child will have all of the instructor's attention. There will be no competition between the child and other students for a teacher's attention. Therefore, once the child is being taught on an individual basis, the quality of learning increases.
By its very nature, home schooling makes way for an incredible volume of tractability as well as freedom when it comes to learning. The lessons taught can be broken up into topics that better suit the Child's educational needs.
One of the most important and often overlooked advantages of this form of schooling is the fact that the child can learn at his or her own pace. Children can take as much time as they need to learn a particular subject without the pressure of looking stupid to other classmates. In addition to taking their time and going at their own pace, a child can also run through the lessons as well, this may turn the average four year high school term into two or maybe three years depending on the child's intelligence.
Many advocates of home schooling are always quick to point out that it gives the child a strong love of learning that does not go away even in adulthood. This alone will be a tremendous asset to the child throughout his or her life.
